The Hadith

The following is a translation of the Hadith of Jibreel:

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Masud:

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was sitting in the mosque when a hair. No one among us recognized him. He sat down in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and rested his knees against his and placed his hands on his thighs. He said, “O Muhammad, inform me about Islam.” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, “Islam is that you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, that you establish prayer, pay the zakat, fast the month of Ramadan, and perform the pilgrimage to the House if you are able.”

The man said, “You have spoken the truth.” The people were amazed that he would ask and then affirm the answer. He then said, “Inform me about Iman.” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, “Iman is that you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day, and that you believe in predestination, both good and bad.”

The man said, “You have spoken the truth.” He then said, “Inform me about Ihsan.” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, “Ihsan is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and even if you do not see Him, He sees you.”

The man said, “You have spoken the truth.” He then said, “Inform me about the Hour.” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, “The one asked about it knows no more than the one asking.”

The man then stood up and left. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) remained silent for a while. Then he said, “Gabriel came to you in disguise to teach you your religion.” (Sahih Muslim)man appeared before him, with extremely white clothes and extremely black

Explanation of the Hadith

The Hadith of Jibreel teaches us that the core of Islam is to believe in the oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him), to perform the five pillars of Islam, and to have faith in all that Allah has revealed. It also teaches us that the highest level of worship is to worship Allah as if we see Him, and even if we do not see Him, to know that He sees us.

The hadith also teaches us that the Day of Judgment is a mystery that is known only to Allah. We should not speculate about when it will occur, but rather focus on preparing for it by living our lives in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

Conclusion

The Hadith of Jibreel is a very important hadith that teaches us about the core beliefs and practices of Islam. It is a hadith that every Muslim should learn and understand.

As we know from the end of this hadith, the man who is described here is actually the angel Jibreel appearing in the form of a Bedouin Arab. The first thing that this tells us is that the angel Jibreel could take different forms, including that of a man .In this case we can see that Allah sent the angel Jibreel to assist in teaching the people about the religion of Islam. According to some scholars his teaching comes not only from the questions he asked, but also from his appearance and behavior.

What we learn here of his appearance is that he was clean, with no traces of dirt upon him. It is recommended for Muslims to have a good appearance and to remain clean as much as possible, especially when attending the mosque or seeking knowledge. White clothing is also preferred, especially for the people of knowledge. More Islamic Information
